Important News about this year's event

Hi, before you register, we want to give you important news about this year's event. If you read nothing else, please read this page.

This is the 10th annual event. We have added a number of new activities, selected a wonderful premium, moved the Sunday morning venue into town and added a commemorative hat.

Register by March 16, 2008

If you want to take full advantage of the event you must register by March 16, 2008. Only those attendees registered by this time will get a premium, have a chance to register for the Saturday dinner, or purchase shirts or the GiG baseball caps.

Sunday's event moved into town

We have changed the location of the Sunday's events. They will now be held at a park in Gettysburg, Recreation Park, close to the majority of the hotels.

New Saturday Dinner

We added a Saturday evening chicken barbecue from 4-7pm held at the Fireman's Pavilion at Gettysburg Recreation Park. The dinner is a ½ barbecue chicken dinner that includes side items and your drink. All for just $7.50. The pavilion allows you to bring you greyhounds with you. The dinner and its proceeds benefit ARC of Adam's County. This chapter is part of the world's largest grassroots organization of and for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Speed Run on Sunday

We swapped out the Greyhound Agility Course for a Greyhound Speed Run. The speed run consists of a 10 foot wide lane set up within one of the enclosed ball fields in the Gettysburg Recreation Park. At one end, we release your dog while at the other end you will be encouraging them to do what they do best, run fast. We will have a speed gun operator joining you to give you an idea of how fast your dog is going to run. There will be a nominal donation of $1 per dog for this event.

Special Greyhound Memorial Raffle

We are very grateful to "Greyhound Pets of America - Springfield, Mo." for donating a beautiful greyhound memorial statue made out of outdoor resin that looks just like the stone from which it was cast, with "A Special Place" poem prominently displayed. It stands on an Arts & Crafts style base, finished in a dramatic chestnut color. Within the stone there is a compartment to place and protect the cremated remains of a beloved pet. This statue stands 34.5" tall with a base dimension of 15"W x 12"D and a weight of 30 lbs. This item sells online for $250 to $350. Raffle tickets will be sold on the registration page at $2 a piece or 3 for $5. The winner will be announced on Saturday. You must be present to win. Sorry, we don't intend to ship this around the country.

Premiums

Each paid attendee will receive a premium. This year's premium is a ceramic coffee mug with the GiG logo. Should you not desire the premium, you can indicate on the registration form that you do not want it and we will put the money to good use.

GiG Baseball Cap

Because this is the 10th annual event, we thought we would provide you a chance to take home a special keepsake. The GiG baseball cap is a khaki cap with a blue brim and includes the GiG logo along with the first year of the event and the current year. The cost of this hat is $18. Its size is listed as Adult one-size fits all. We don't know whether we will have the hat in 2009 and we certainly won't put the 2008 date on it! So this may be your one chance to get a spiffy 2008 GiG hat.

Shirts

We have chosen a wonderful color for this year's polo shirt, sand with navy blue embroidery. Sand is not too pretty or not too handsome. A perfect choice for either sex.

We want to thank Bret Palis for providing our t-shirt design for this year. It commemorates ten years of fun at the event. We decided to do something different and put the design on the front of the shirt. The shirt color is sapphire blue. Here you see an early version of the design.

Pick Up Materials at the Event

As with the previous year, we ask you to pick up the majority of your attendee materials at the event. This will include any dinner tickets, raffle tickets, premiums, shirts or caps. You will receive the event guide in the mail about two weeks prior to the event.

Why Pay an Attendee Fee?

Now that you have seen all of the items we added this year, there are some of you who will still ask why they need to pay an attendee fee. It costs a lot to put on the event in both money and time. Click here to find out how your fee is used. Thank you for reading the event news. You are now ready to proceed to registration.
