About the Park and Battlefield
Gettysburg National
Military Park is part of the National Park System. It is a living
history lesson, sight of the bloodiest battle of the Civil War,
made famous by Lincoln's Gettysburg Address. Gettysburg - the town
and the battlefield park - provide a landscape that is eerily unchanged
from those scenes captured by the photography of Matthew Brady nearly
140 years ago. The National Park's features
Visitor
Center & Museum, some of the finest
sculpture,
as well as The Eisenhower National
Historic Site.
While famous for the Civil War battle that took place in and around
the town, Gettysburg is also home to Gettysburg
College and Lutheran Theological
Seminary. Gettysburg is also the County Seat for Historic Adams
County, the "apple capitol" of the USA. Gettysburg has a revitalized
downtown shopping district as well as a recent addition of an outlet
mall off the Route 15 bypass.
Some Notes and Points of Information
Name tags are provided for all registered attendees. You are requested
to wear them at all Greyhound at Gettsyburg activities. We will
check for name tags at a number of the activities.
Your dog may not share your enthusiasm to participate in all events.
Watch your dog for signs of fatigue. Since weather can be tricky,
be sure to have water on hand to fight dehydration and a coat available
in case the weather turns cold or wet. Your dog may prefer to nap
while you socialize or shop. You are still welcome to participate
in events, even without a dog. There are always folks who bring
multiple dogs who are thankful for an extra set of hands.
You know your dog best, if your dog is uncomforable in crowds
and unfamiliar places, he may let you - and others - know it by
growling, barking or snapping. Dogs that have a history of interaction
issues should wear a RED BANDANA so all can give the dog
the appropriate space. If problems persist, he may be happier back
at the hotel taking a nap.
Registration is required for this event. The Greyhounds in Gettysburg
Event requires an accurate headcount for insurance purposes.Click
here for GiG Online Registration.
Dogs are welcome at all planned events.
Not all events are for all dogs. Friday's
Welcome at Battlefield Harley- Davidson may be noisy and crowded.
Dogs that are not comfortable in crowds, unfamiliar places or startled/scared
of loud noises are better off back at the hotel, sleeping off the
day's drive.
