SEGA Tallahassee Dog Hauls
It all started with a kennel closing in 2001. The kennel owner,
convicted on animal cruelty charges was given 3 days to remove the
dogs in his care from the track grounds. Pam Davis working with
Melinda Eigleman and a hauler, Don Jairett, were able to move the
21 dogs out and get them to adoption programs in the east and midwest
United States. Next came a farm closing. By this year Pam and the
volunteers of SEGA (Southeastern Greyhound Adoptions) have moved
over 400 dogs from some of the most needy tracks. Pam and her group
have continued to meet a needs of the tracks at the bottom of the
system, creating a way for these tracks to send dogs to established
adoption programs rather than destroy the dogs. It costs $60 to
haul each dog. Triangle Greyhound Society is sponsoring 3 dogs.
SEGA is a project of GPA-Atlanta. If you would like to support this

The Morris Animal Foundation's Greyhound Cancer Fund
Beginning in 1998, The Greyhound Project began a matching fund
program with The Morris Animal Foundation. Through this program,
over $85,000.00 has been raised to fund research studies on canine
cancer. The Greyhound Project has been instrumental in supporting
the fight against cancer in Greyhounds. By choosing this program
we are able to give doubly, as The Greyhound Project will match
the first $4,500 donated between February 2002 and March 2003. If
you would like to further support this work, donations can be sent

The Leg Up Fund
The Leg Up Fund enables the repair and rehabilitation dogs with
broken hocks or limbs who otherwise would be euthanised. Marilyn
Varnberg, the founder of Greyhound Adoptions of Florida based in
Summerfield, FL has begun the program after learning of the many
dogs who lives would be lost due to a career ending injury.

TGS - Bridging the Gap between Adoption and
Ownership
The Adoption of Retired Racing Greyhounds is the main mission of
all greyhound adoption and rescue groups. Every year thousands of
dogs are retired from racing and in need of good, loving homes.
Sometimes that's making a few phone calls, or providing transportation
for a leg of a GUR (Greyhound Underground Railroad), fostering a
homeless dog or supporting an established program. Triangle Greyhound
Society's (TGS) aim is to help bridge the gap between established
adoption programs and greyhound ownership.
- We provide community outreach and education about retired racing
greyhounds and adoption through participation in community events,
in school programs, and Meet & Greets. See our Calendar
for upcoming activities.
- We provide information to potential adopters and new adopters
through a local hotline number. We can be contacted by phone,
email or normal US Postal Service mail. Our contact information
is here.
- We provide assistance in temporary housing and rehoming of
dogs that have lost their home through a variety of circumstances;
and that (for one reason or another) cannot be returned or handled
as a return by the originating adoption kennel. TGS offers opportunities
to volunteer to foster or support fostering efforts by donating
to The Foster Fund.
- We assist in the provision of emergency veterinary care for
dogs in need.
- We help tracks and breeders, who may find their normal adoption
channels at capacity, to connect to established adoption groups
and programs.
- We maintain special funds to support and encourage efforts by
those local to the triangle and beyond through monetary donations
to support programs and efforts. The Foster Fund is designed to
ensure that good works continue, and to encourage participation
by our community and the community at large.
