TGS – Bridging the Gap between Adoption and Ownership
The Adoption of Retired Racing Greyhounds is the main mission of all greyhound adoption and rescue groups. Every year thousands of dogs are retired from racing and in need of good, loving homes. Sometimes that’s making a few phone calls, or providing transportation for a leg of a GUR (Greyhound Underground Railroad), fostering a homeless dog or supporting an established program. Triangle Greyhound Society’s aim is to help bridge the gap between established adoption programs and greyhound ownership.
-
We provide community outreach and education about retired racing greyhounds and adoption through participation in community events, in school programs, and Meet & Greets. See our Calendar for upcoming activities.
-
We provide information to potential adopters and new adopters through a local hot-line number. We can be contacted by phone, email or normal US Postal Service mail. Our contact information is here.
-
We provide assistance in temporary housing and re-homing of dogs that have lost their home through a variety of circumstances. TGS offers opportunities to volunteer to foster or support fostering efforts by donating to The Foster Fund.
-
We help tracks and breeders, who may find their normal adoption channels at capacity, to connect to established adoption groups and programs.
We maintain special funds to support and encourage efforts by those local adoption programs in the State of North Carolina and beyond through monetary donations. The Foster Fund is designed to ensure that good works continue. It is a way to encourage participation by our community at large.
